To-Do in Saint Simons: The Official List

Friends and family passing through or thinking of visiting Brunswick or the Golden Isles always ask us what they should check out in town on their visit.  Jason and I thought a lot about this back when creating our wedding website, so why not share the love in a more permanent setting?

If you're visiting from out of town there's a good chance you're staying on Saint Simons Island (even if we've begged you to stay in a cool old Airbnb in Brunswick!) By the way, down here we call it "The Island." Jekyll is still Jekyll.  More on that later.

So here I give you - our favorite things to do in Saint Simons.

Food & Cocktails

Tramici

Amazing Italian food and everything is good! Our dear friend, Ann, introduced us to the place and picked up the tab...a brave offer for two big boys who love Italian food! 🙂 We've been fans ever since. We recommend the caprese or Cesar salad, the farfalle bolognese, and the chicken picatta. Never had the pizza, but we hear it's good.

We've not had an official sit-down dinner here, but this is one of my favorite go-to spots for a happy hour on the island. The bar is named for chef and owner Daniel Auffenberg’s maternal grandmother, Dorothy Crane.  Dorothy’s serves raw fresh seafood and other coastal cuisine alongside many dishes inspired by Daniel and his wife, Claire’s, travels to Southeast Asia. Dorothy’s has a large focus on craft cocktails, both original and classics.

Certified Burgers and Beer

Jeff Carrier is the friendly owner who is never short on conversation and always makes sure “we got it right.” Last time we visited, I got the spicy Oaxaca Burger with a fried egg on top and Buffalo blue cheese tots. Jason, the purist, got the American and the hand cut fries. Both were amazing. Pro tip: usually we hate an up sell, but in this case, if they suggest you add a little something extra, take their word for it. Only drawback...they have craft sodas, so no Diet Coke. Guess you’ll have to get a beer instead?!?

One of the newer restaurants on the Island, Fiddlers is a laid back spot that specializes in local fare. Ask to sit on the patio, or better yet, if they are crowded, sit at the counter bar and overlook the marsh. We recommend the Fried Deviled Eggs, 5 Miles East of Brunswick Stew, the Fiddlers Bowl (with shrimp), the Crab Cake BLT, and the Shrimp Po Boy.

Palmer's Village Cafe

If you are going to eat breakfast on the Island, you have to do it here! And if you eat here, at least SOMEONE has to get the pancakes or French toast. Josh gets the Huevous Rancheros and Jason gets the Hooch omlet. The Coastal Delight omlet and the biscuits and gravy are a close second!

Southern Soul BBQ

Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives...Southern Living...Garden & Gun...Governors...movie stars...they've all been here, and for good reason. Southern Soul BBQ is GOOD! If you have time, stop in and grab a bite. We recommend the Southern Soul Sampler platter (brisket and pulled pork and ribs), the Soul Jumbo Pulled Pork sandwich (or the smaller Pig Sandwich, if you are wimp), the Soul Burger, the collard greens, mac & cheese, and the hand-cut fries. Take a bottle of sauce home with you. Really...it's all good!
They also have a pretty cool and hidden rum bar around the back side called Channel Marker - check it out
